breathless, icy, bright daughter of the night - who do you cry for?
keening softly 'neath the winter moon.

Should she have been born in one of the wandering tribes of the Xaela, Miya might have been hailed as a reincarnation of Nhaama, Dusk Mother and goddess of the moon. As it was, her own family had different ideas about her appearance. Stout worshipers of Azim, they beheld their pale daughter in their arms and whispered to one another that she had been cursed by Nhaama to punish them.

Against her tan-skinned family, Miya shone like a beacon, so they did everything in their power to hide her light. The rumors began circulating as soon as the wealthy and powerful Clan Kaisuri refused to announce their daughter's birth - was the child a bastard? Deformed? Not purely Raen? Kugane buzzed, eager to find a chink in the armor of the merchant family.

And so Miya was kept locked away from the public eye, nothing but an open secret.

moon-cursed. moon-blessed.

The young girl was afforded most of the luxuries of her noble upbringing - she was taught how to read and write, how to sew, how to paint, how to play the violin - but these were merely formalities. Her own parents spent very little time with her, instead leaving her to her nannies and her grandmother so they wouldn't have to look upon her moon-bright face.

Trapped, lonely, and sad, Miya spent most of her time studying medicine. Theoretical, practical, or magical, it didn't matter; she hungrily devoured any scrap of information about it. Her desire for knowledge and the peace that her violin would bring her were the only things that kept her sane most days.

Those hobbies plus her grandmother's presence, that was. "There's magic in you," her grandmother would say. "Cursed or not, I sense the magic in your soul." It was with her grandmother's encouragement that Miya began to explore that side of herself, connecting to the magic that her grandmother's grandmother had once wielded. With magic at her fingertips, she felt confident. She felt powerful.

all alone, i've waited; i held it in as i played by your rules
i've been biting my lip, but i'm losing my grip.

Upon turning twenty, Miya made her escape from her cut-throat family. Though she was the firstborn, her younger sister was meant to be the heir to the Clan and the business. She saw no future for herself in her family's grasp. With her grandmother's help and a small knapsack of some belongings, Miya left under the light of a full moon.

She had never believed the whispers that she was cursed. Nhaama had touched her, of that she was certain - but she chose to believe it was a blessing. Moonlight had always chased her every footstep, the Goddess's hand on her shoulder to guide her way. It was with this certainty that Miya took a ship to Eorzea, where she landed in Gridania and enrolled in the Conjurer's Guild.

Miya truly came into her magic at the Guild. She proved to be a powerful conjurer, able to easily connect to and communicate with the elements of the Twelveswood and beyond. She spent her time traveling between the Shroud, Thanalan, and La Noscea, going wherever her various networks told her to go. Her entire goal in life was to simply help others - the experiences she had along the way were enough payment for her.

change me into something i believe in.

However, that outlook changed when she met Maelstrom Captain Jargal. The two of them struck up a wickedly passionate romance, connecting to each other in ways they'd never experienced before. Their relationship has been nothing but a whirlwind or a forest fire - it's consumed every aspect of their lives. In fact, the two of them married barely three weeks after meeting each other.

Jargal has been teaching Miya how to really live. She's spent all of this time sacrificing her own desires for the good of other people, so he's teaching her how to find out what she wants for herself. Miya has done a lot of traveling with Jargal on his ship, The Crimson Trace, to learn more about herself and her desires. She has never been happier, more strong than she is when she's with him.

Currently, she's living in the Mists with him in their very own home. She's put in the work to become a commissioned officer of the Maelstrom and frequently works with her husband in his office while working to open a clinic of her own. They've had one set of twins and have another baby on the way.

i am the voice of the future
bring me your peace and my wounds, they will heal.

  • Miya is married to a Maelstrom Captain. If your character is in the Maelstrom or would have any reason to know Jargal (he's kind of infamous in Limsa), then they're very likely to know Miya as well. Currently, the two of them have been together for nearly two years.

  • I've figured out Miya's kind of a badass. That means we can do a reverse damsel in distress and she can save your character! Or not!

  • On a different note...she's likely to have a lot of friends. Even if they don't realize it! I meant it when I said she considers even strangers a friend until they prove otherwise. Considering how outgoing and kind she is, I'd hope at least a few people like her. I'm totally fine with setting up some long-term friendships for her!

  • Your character needs a healer to go with them on their adventure! Miya has their back. She'll keep them up in both health and spirits! Better yet, her husband is a very strong warrior that'll be of great use in any fight.

  • Similarly, maybe your character is currently a patient! She will absolutely mother hen over people that try to speed up the healing process. Even with magic, bodies need to rest!

  • Your character was raised in Kugane and either knew her or was a friend of hers! Most Raen in Kugane kept their distance from her, so Miya tended to spend time with people outside of her race. I'd love to have one or two close friends from her past!

  • Any other ideas? Please, please let me know! I'm very open to a myriad of ideas. I'll write just about anything!

  • I'm well over 18 and I only RP with other 18+ players!

  • Walk ups are welcome! A tell to ask me if I'm busy in advance is preferred - most of the time, I'm doing quests to catch up.

  • This character is on the Crystal DC.

  • Please note that I prefer to RP in /party or /tell chat when in-game. I'm not a fan of public writing.

  • I write in third person, present tense. I might be willing to write in past tense if that's more comfortable for my partner.

  • She's not available for ERP or romance plots!

  • I would love to become friends with you outside of the RP! Let's do some raiding, dungeons, maps, and general chatting!

  • I'm willing to give multiple short-term casual RPs a chance, but I'm really looking for one or two people to click with and write long-term plots!

  • DISCORD: nyxie#3738 | I promise I'm really friendly!
